Broken Tree Branches After KZN Storms!
Whilst I am a ‘girl’ …I do love camping and enjoy working in the garden, and after two particularly ferocious storms last month, we needed plenty of hands to clean up the debris, especially since three of our big trees were hit by lightening and needed some extensive ‘trimming’.
However using a power chain saw and axe, I must admit are (gladly) beyond my scope of skills… and the cost to out source the job… was simply ‘ludicrous’!
Fortunately, Wouter had supplied me with a ‘Pocket ChainSaw’ which we used when the job proved too much for our ‘aged’ hacksaw, as we set about cutting down broken branches… and whilst we did also buy a new bow saw to use …the ‘Pocket ChainSaw’ proved to be an excellent tool that was easy and light to use in the most difficult situations and positions. (My husband and son have threatened me with all sorts if I disclose the photo’s by publishing them *Smile*).
However, you can see below that the broken tree branches
were relatively high up and in a difficult position to cut…
The other problem we had with this particular broken tree branch was that the end was resting on the telephone cables, and could cause damage.
Up the ladder went…
And my husband and son made it look relatively easy…
as the branches came down!
Cut Clean!
These branches were later cut into small pieces for the woodpile
which will be used in my fireplace this winter. *Smile*
One of the most difficult tasks of the day… Would you believe?
Was actually getting the photographs,
with the bright sun shining down…
However, hope these at least give you an idea how
handy the ‘Pocket ChainSaw’ is!
(If you click on the individual photos, a larger view will open.)
The ‘Pocket ChainSaw’ literally fits in your ‘pocket’! It’s easy to use and will prove handy on any trip, especially into the great outdoors! Please visit the website and view the demo clip [ http://www.pocketchainsaw.co.za/ ]

Cutting Roots
For cutting roots and other hard to get at applications clear the area under the root to place the saw.

Cutting Felled Trees
For cutting felled trees and branches you can use a piece of wood to prop up the piece to be cut.

Expectations!
Early this year, Wouter posted me the Pocket ChainSaw, so we could take some pics and look at the packaging…
Later that week we had a major storm and one of the large trees in our garden was struck by lightening and a few of the large branches in the centre of the tree cracked and only half fell. During the course of the next few weeks the branches started to die and obviously became a hazard because of the threat that it may cause if it fell and came down on a wall or one of our animals.
Quotes from tree fellers, I thought were ridiculous… I know they use expensive equipment and climbing a tree requires some technique… but we are talking hundreds of rand, close to thousand… and this looked like a ‘little job’.
So anyway, one Saturday morning I am looking at the Pocket ChainSaw on my desk and eyeing this tree in my garden through the open French doors and wondering how much it will cost me to ‘pay’ (more like bribe, bargain, threaten, charm, cajole ;o) my husband to climb the tree and ‘test’ the Pocket ChainSaw!
Well, I got a very determined No!
From my husband, however I also have two teenage sons, who are much more easily charmed (paid, bribed… manipulated and obviously poorer (and not as clever) as my husband *Grin*).
Whilst my eldest son refused to climb the tree, my younger 17 year old was more willing. It only took a couple of hours of nagging whilst all the technology remained off in the house.
So up into the tree he went, and cut down more than a dozen branches… it took more time to climb from branch to branch than to actually cut them down… and despite the fact that Wouter is one of my favourite clients, I believe he has a winner with the Pocket ChainSaw!
It really does do everything you expect it too.
Easy To Use
Cutting Tips
- Place the Pocket ChainSaw around the limb to be cut so that the teeth are against the wood, with a handle in each hand and pull the Pocket ChainSaw back and forth using slow steady strokes.
(See Drawing Below) - Pull Pocket ChainSaw with one hand and provide resistance to the Pocket ChainSaw motion with other hand. This regulates how much the saw bites into the wood on each stroke and thus how quickly you cut.
- With some practice you can regulate the speed and effort easily and cut even large logs and branches quickly.
